What does a Water to Hydrogen Generator do?

These days there are surprisingly many companies on the market presenting their Generators.

These generators are used to turn water into its components: Hydrogen (H) and Oxygen (O).

The process itself is called Electrolysis, since with electrical voltage Water (H₂O) is broken down into its parts Hydrogen and Oxygen.

The Hydrogen has a positive charge and the Oxygen a negative charge.

So when using a generator to do this electrolysis "on demand" there is no need to store liquified and deeply frozen Hydrogen.

Because Hydrogen is highly explosive (think of the doomed Challenger, Hydrogen is part of the Space Shuttle Fuel)the risk working with stored Hydrogen is immense.

A generator creates Hydrogen on the go, as much as needed...just in time, so to say.

Therefore I really wonder why this technology is still kind of suppressed.
