With the Ford Escape Hybrid Review we are reviewing one of the first and most fuel efficient SUVs.
|
The 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid FWD (4 cyl, 2.5 L, Automatic (variable gear ratios), Regular) shows the best combined MPG consumption with 32 MPG. The combines costs to drive 25 miles are estimated at US$ 2.12.
Ford claims that the Escape Hybrid is the "first vehicle to combine SUV capability with the outstanding fuel economy" and indeed the Ford was the best positioned SUV in the fuel economy charts also in 2009.
The Ford Escape hybrid comes with a 'nickel-metal-hydrid' (NiMH) battery which (as well as the other hybrid specific components) comes with either an 8yr/100.000 mi or 10yr/150.000 mi guarantee.
A nice feature is that the battery gets a charge whenever you hit the brakes - the kinetic energy is used to produce electricity.
On electricity alone, the Ford Escape 2010 is capable of going 44 miles until the gas engine has to take over.
With the Escape Hybrid 2011 model Ford was even able to push the consumption as low as 39 MPG.
